Being a New Englander, it is hard to decide what made the 2015 Email Evolution Conference in Miami more special. Was it the entertaining and informative content program? Or was it the opportunity to escape the winter blues and spend a few days in warm weather? I’m happy to call it even, and share some of the highlights.

EEC 2015 opened with one of the world’s most influential and accomplished speakers in the digital age: Guy Kawasaki. With his 10 rules for enchanting customers, Guy urged email marketers to pursue challenges, seek inspiration in their personal and professional lives and transform those ideas into products and experiences that will in turn inspire customers. He shared tales from his Apple career working with Steve Jobs and even marketing wisdom from his daughter.

Session highlights from the main agenda included one I was directly involved with: Building a Case for Digital Attribution, an engaging panel featuring senior marketing leaders from Dell and Ebates; Kara  Trivunovic, VP of digital solutions with Epsilon; and yours truly as moderator. You can read more about the lessons learned from this panel in Kara’s own insightful recap. Attendees enjoyed entertaining and sometimes provocative vendor face-offs in real-time content, agency services, and list validation. And the closing keynote offered a surprisingly humorous panel with Mythbusters: Deliverability vs. Engagement, featuring industry-leading ISPs and email marketers joining in a lively debate on consumer engagement.

Finally, one of EEC’s most enjoyable moments year in and year out is the opportunity to recognize the shining stars in the email industry. This year, the EEC’s Stefan Pollard Email Marketer of the Year Award went to Alessandra Souers, senior brand manager for Jib Jab Media, and the Thought Leader of the Year award went to Justine Jordan, marketing director with Litmus. Two deserving winners for sure, and exciting to have not one, but two influential women in email marketing recognized at the same time. Our sincere congratulations go to Alessandra and Justine.

Today EEC 2015 is no more than fond memories and exciting new ideas. Here’s hoping they will keep me inspired through the next New England snowstorm.
